Written by Bhavani Iyer (of Raazi fame), the show unravels a beautiful story of human connection that goes beyond prejudice, with lush cinematography of the sprawling mountains.

Kota Factory was to engineering coaching as Hostel Daze is to general hostel life. The show follows Vaibhav and his friends at the Prodigy Institute in Kota who are within a system from which only disillusionment is the expected result. In just five episodes, the series encompasses the distinction between rank-holders and those who are left to an unknown fate. And while everyone manages to reach somewhere, the journey is rather familiar.

Raj and DK’s smart and slick and fast-paced show about a spy who is stuck in a balancing act between performing his duty and keeping up the appearance of being a simple middle-class government employee (including to his family) is elevated by Manoj Bajpayee’s performance. The show has lighthearted moments but a lot of gravitas in treatment. 

Yeh Ballet (2020) - Film on Netflix

Sooni Taraporewala’s story of two slum-dwelling kids who are able to find themselves and the art within themselves through the beautiful movement of ballet is like the story of any dreamer in Mumbai. Some may call the plot predictable but the smartness in the film’s direction is that it chooses to focus on the characters that strive for perfection in dance even as their naysayers create obstacles. Beautiful and evocative, Yeh Ballet is unique in how it tells its story if not the story itself.

Pushpavalli Season 2 (2020) - Series on Amazon Prime Video

Edgy, sharp and unapologetically entertaining, Pushpavalli is a bit of a cheat if you haven’t caught on with season 1 when it first arrived in 2017. No worries, watch both seasons together. A gem in the repertoire of media that reflects the dreams and trials of small-town India, Panchayat is a masterfully crafted show about Abhishek (Jitendra Kumar) who takes up the post of secretary at a panchayat office in village Phulera, UP. In a supposedly mundane, routine life, he is faced by many small battles. This realistic portrait of middle India also stars Raghuvir Yadav, Chandan Roy, Neena Gupta and Faisal Malik.
