What is it about?
FBI agent Emily Byrne (Stana Katic), while hunting one of Boston's most notorious serial killers, Agent Byrne disappears without a trace and is declared dead. Six years later, Emily is found in a cabin in the woods, barely alive, and with no memory of the years, she was missing. Returning home to learn her husband has remarried and her son is being raised by another woman, she soon finds herself implicated in a new series of murders.

Analysis
Stana Katic (of "Castle' fame) is great in the lead role. She also serves as executive producer. Unfortunately, the series gets waterlogged along the way. Emily is captured and escapes several times. A lot of time is spent running through the woods. The show would have been more effective as a movie (or a limited series). Ten episodes is way too many for this story. "Absentia" has been renewed for a season two. Let's hope they iron out the issues by then. I'm willing to give the series a second look.

Performances
Stana Katic's performance shines here, as a trauma victim whose life just keeps getting convolutedly worse.  the intense and dramatically charged new show makes far better use of Katic's talents than Castle ever did.

Music and other departments
The Sound mixing wasn't too great. The music and sound effects overwhelm conversations.

Highlights
Thrillers are great but usually, the characters are pretty shallow. Not in Absentia. The personalities are as intriguing as the non-stop action. At first Emily seems a pure victim. Big doe eyes open wide as she realises after six years of being tortured she has nothing to look forward to, no job no husband no child, only nightmares. Then there is her husband, also an FBI agent who never seems to move his lips as he talks. Is he a heroic saviour torn between two wives or something more sinister?

Drawbacks
You have to watch the full season to be able to understand what's happening on the screen. Sometimes the psychological thrills seem too convoluted and forced for their own good.

Did I Enjoy It?
Seeing Stana Katic back on the screen was a good experience. So yes, I enjoyed it.

Do I Recommend It?
Yes
