Alia Bhatt would like to do an investigative crime series for an OTT platform.

The quality of writing in Indian TV is certainly on an upswing due to the popularity of streaming platforms, and the opportunities being given to talented writers and directors to showcase their work. A trend that was originally more popular in the west, now we see Indian A-listers jumping on the web series bandwagon as well. Saif Ali Khan did it with Sacred Game, Manoj Bajpayee with The Family Man, and Abhishek Bachchan will soon be seen in the second season of Madhavan-starrer Breathe. It seems that Alia Bhatt may also be interested in joining this illustrious list.

When asked whether she would want to work on a web series or a film made exclusively for an OTT platform, Alia said, “I’d love to do a limited series, definitely. Perhaps something in the investigation, mystery-thriller genre. If I am offered a role which I really connect with, I’d be happy to sign up no matter what the format.” Alia praised Sushmita Sen’s performance in Disney+ Hotstar’s latest series Aarya, for which the actress is earning praise from across the board.

Alia was seen as part of the panel which was promoting ‘Multiplex,’ a new campaign by Disney+ Hotstar for their bouquet of 7 big Bollywood movies which will now be released directly via OTT instead of theatrically. Alia’s film Sadak 2 is part of the list.

In Sadak 2, the actress plays one of the key characters who meet the protagonist Ravi (played by Sanjay Dutt) in the journey that continues since 1991’s Sadak. Like the prequel, this film is also directed by Mahesh Bhatt, which not just marks his return to direction after many years but also his first collaboration with daughter Alia. The film is shot extensively in Uttarakhand, the mountains of which play a key role in the film. Alia shared the film’s poster during the session and spoke about how the mountains should remain untouched. When asked by her frequent co-star Varun Dhawan as to why she often does movies with ‘roads’ in the title - Highway, Gully Boy, Sadak 2, Alia joked about signing up for a film called ‘Nukkad’ with her first co-star Akshay Kumar (the actress had a cameo in the movie Sangharsh as a child actor).

Meanwhile, Alia has been spending most of the lockdown period taking guitar lessons, baking and cooking, and catching up on a lot of content that she hadn’t had the time to watch.

Sadak 2 also stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Pooja Bhatt and is an exclusive Disney+ Hotstar release. The exact date for the film is unconfirmed, but it is likely to stream sometime in or around August 2020.
