What is the story about?

Rudra (Taapsee) and her family come across an ancient palace that has loads of worthy belongings in it. However, they slowly come to know that they are surrounded by many ghosts who all have their history linked to the palace. Rudra slowly learns that she is directly connected to Annabelle of the 1940s, a connection that leads to many other reveals!

Analysis

Annabelle Sethupathi comes off like a Disney film, fitting the tag of its OTT platform. The stage is set in the first ten minutes, arriving at the core of the film very early and allowing the audience to understand that what’s coming is not too serious, and has to be taken with a cool head. The film rolls out with one planned comic sequence after the other in the first half, setting its aims on the younger ones in the family. It is only in the second half that Annabelle Sethupathi works out to fetch its share of emotions, bringing in a romantic track between the lead pair and diving deeper into the thin storyline. While the film does not offer anything special, it is a fine watch for those who are looking for a cheerful watch packed with laughs at every turn.

Performances

Contrary to her serious outings in the recent past, Taapsee opts for a comic outing this time and takes on a full-fledged role with a lot of elan. She enjoys herself with the casting battalion that the film has, led by stalwarts such as Rajendra Prasad and Radikaa, all the way until seasoned actors such as Subbu Panchu, Chetan and Devadarshini. Despite Vijay Sethupathi’s cameo, the show stealer here turns out to be Yogi Babu, who manages to pull in the witty one liners wherever possible.

Music & Other Departments

Krishna Kishor’s songs do the trick but his background score is mostly not in sync with the film’s proceedings. With the story largely set inside the palace, the visuals have been organized in a way that it does not look repetitive.

Highlights

The presence of the large cast is the plus point.

Drawbacks

The film slows down in the second half and offers fewer laughs.

Did I enjoy it?

May not be a perfect watch but it sure does have something in it to keep things flowing.

Do I recommend it?

If you have younger ones in the house, bring them together and catch this all magic - no logic entertainer.
