As streaming wars heat up, Apple TV+ poaches Netflix's top engineer to amp up operations
The streaming war between heavyweights Netflix and Apple TV+ is well and truly out in the open. As per reports in the media, Apple TV+ has poached a top engineer from Netflix, in a bid to amp up its operations.
Ruslan Meshenberg, who until recently was a core part of Netflix’s streaming operations, has now joined the team at Apple TV+. Meshenberg carried out the crucial job of overseeing the smooth running of the vast catalog of movies and TV shows for Netflix's fast-growing worldwide customer base.
A quick glance at Ruslan Meshenberg's LinkedIn profile conveys the reports to be true. After spending the last eight years at Netflix, Meshenberg is an engineering leader at Apple TV+ from January 2020.
Apple Inc launched its streaming services with Apple TV+ in November 2019, with high aspirations and several high-profile shows in its streaming roster. Although reasonably successful, and achieving good numbers initially, most of Apple TV+ shows have failed to keep viewers enthused for long.
The poaching of the top Netflix honcho is one of the first salvos from Apple TV+ to amp up operations quickly and meaningfully. How the move pans out for Apple Inc remains to be seen.
