Bandish Bandits Music Review: A fairly enjoyable set of tunes from Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy!

Amazon Prime’s next attraction is Bandish Bandits, the musical love story which comes to the platform on the 4th of August. The series, helmed by Anand Tiwari who made Love Per Square Foot, has music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the trio who has composed for many biggies in Bollywood. Here are our thoughts on the songs.

Sajan Bin: Singers – Shivam Mahadevan, Jonita Gandhi ????
The fusion setup of this song really offers great space for the singers, and Shivam Mahadevan grabs the opportunity with both hands and does a very good job. There’s a sense of style and class in the background which helps this track cling on, instantly.

Chedkhaniyaan: Singers – Shivam Mahadevan and Prathibha Singh Baghel
A typical Bollywood-like melody with good vocals from Shivam (again) and Prathibha. The synths aren’t anything new so this track won’t have much shelf value.

Couple Goals: Singers – Armaan Malik and Jonita Gandhi
Despite having two talented singers on board, this song doesn’t create much of a positive feeling and falls flat on its face.

Labb Par Aaye: Singer – Javed Ali
The classical setup of the song is well done, with Javed Ali coming in as an apt fit. But however, the song loses its fizz after a point.

Virah: Singer – Shankar Mahadevan ????
Shankar Mahadevan himself on the vocals and the album wakes up from hibernation. Sameer Samant’s lines and the chant-like rendition works wonders here.

Dhara Hogi: Singer – Shankar Mahadevan ????
Shankar Mahadevan again, and we get ourselves a splendid song once again. Simple orchestrations, but the singer in him touch an all-new peak. Superbly done.

Garaj Garaj Jugalbandi: Singer – Farid Hasan and Mohammed Aman
As the name goes, this is a jugalbandhi that we usually get to listen at concerts and weddings up north. The song has some raises which are handled excellently by the singers.

Mastiyaapa: Singer – Jonita Gandhi
Jonita Gandhi is seemingly the go-to female singer in the album, and she takes control of this likeable track that is basic but has some catchy portions.

Garaj Garaj: Singer – Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty and Javed Ali
Another song in the soundtrack with a heavy classical flavour. Though it does not manage to get catchy, it has some nice portions.

Padharo Maare Das: Singer – Shankar Mahadevan
Shankar Mahadevan gets onto the mic for another song and makes it work solely by the power of his vocals. Fine overall.

Bandish Bandits Theme: Singer – Shankar Mahadevan ????
The interestingly orchestrated theme of the album clicks due to the raises, ending it on a good note.

The album of Bandish Bandits definitely blows hot and cold, with some tracks that impress and some which go down without much of a noise. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy has contributed a simple, likeable soundtrack but it cannot be compared with their best.
