What is the story about?

It’s an experimental Zee 5 original series directed by Deven Munjal and written by Sumrit Shahi, Jatin Dua and Durjoy Dutta. It revolves around a dysfunctional family who intentionally plans to live away from each other during the lockdown to avoid getting on each other’s nerves. But eventually, they end up doing the same in a comedic way just like any normal family.
Totally five characters and all of them were equally good. Lovely Bhalla (Lubna Salim) was spot on typical caring and overprotective mother. Mr.Bhalla (Rajesh Kumar) suited the wannabe cool dad. Gogi a.k.a Yogi (Gaurav Gera) was the wisdom imparting uncle. Sahil Bhalla (Leenesh Matto) the elder son and the perfect mama’s boy and finally Lisa Bhalla (Gracy Goswami) the fiery younger child in the family who wants to change the world. A perfect ensemble of characters suited to create a comedy ruckus.
This is an experimental series which was conceptualized, written, shot, edited and released on Zee 5 during the lockdown. There were no sets; none of the actors met each other. Everything happened remotely. That makes this series truly a new-age technology experiment shot during the lockdown. The writers were very good in depicting the challenging and testing times where everyone’s patience is wearing out and stress levels are shooting up locked up in their own homes. But this uncertainty was perfectly utilized by the team of “Bhalla Calling Bhalla” and presented a fun-filled series.
Music and other Departments
The entire concept of shooting using phone cameras with the available resources was remarkable. Putting together 4 episodes which approximately runs for 40 minutes was perfectly edited by Utsav Bhagat Ankit Kadam. As far as cinematography is concerned I believe everyone including the actors were helming the cameras. In the age of Tik Tok pretension, this show seemed like a fresh breath of air.
The entire concept of the show is the highlight. The team should be lauded for their creative attempt in entertaining the audience with a unique concept of filmmaking.
There are no drawbacks.
Did I enjoy it?
I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Do I recommend it and why?
I definitely recommend it. Firstly, the entire series can be binged in no time. Secondly, despite the challenges, Bhalla Calling Bhalla makes sure to put a big smile on your face.
