Coolie No.1 & Khaali Peeli to release on OTT?

Reports have stated over the past few weeks about many Bollywood films which are completed and a few which are in post-production are taking the OTT route for the release of their respective films. It has been around three months since the theatres have been shut down completely due to restrictions owing to COVID-19. This situation has forced the hands of the filmmakers around the globe to choose a viable option to survive the pandemic and keep the business afloat.

In a recent interview with Mumbai Mirror, Ali Abbas Zafar reacted to the news of Ishaan and Ananya starrer “Khaali Peeli” to release on OTT. Ali is co-producing the film with Zee Studios and stated that major portions of the film have been shot and they’re yet to complete the shoot. They’re at present focusing only on completing the film and will wait and see when the theatres will start functioning and depending on the situation they’ll make a decision. So, as of now, Khaali Peeli is under production. Ali also stated that Khaali Peeli will be a commercial potboiler. Ishaan and Ananya brought a lot of youthful energy to the shoot. Also, he expressed his excitement to start shooting Katrina Kaif starrer Netflix’s superhero film, once the lockdown is lifted.

Similarly, we hear that David Dhawan’s “Coolie No.1” reboot might opt for an OTT release if the theatres remain shut down for another two months. The film was originally slated for a release in the month of May 2020. But due to the current situation, it has been postponed indefinitely. Apparently the digital rights of the film are owned by Amazon Prime Video. According to the sources, there’s a talk going between the producers and the Amazon Prime Video for a direct OTT release. But there’s no official statement yet.

With the majority of the filmmakers already opting for an OTT release, it sounds viable that the makers of Coolie No.1 might opt for the same. Let’s wait and watch when and where.
