Disney Plus announces Doogie Howser M.D. reboot with a female lead who will play Doogie Kealoha, M.D.!
Disney Plus is planning a reboot of the iconic eighties' TV show, Doogie Howser, M.D. However, there is one major difference between the original and the reboot - the original had Neil Patrick Harris play a genius kid who becomes a doctor at 16. The reboot will have a 16-year-old female protagonist playing a doc.
There is slated to be another major difference in the reboot - the lead female is half Asian half white. The reboot series is set in Hawaii, which is also where Kourtney Kang hails from - she is the writer-creator of the reboot. Kourtney Kang was also the writer-producer of Neil Patrick Harris' other popular show, How I Met Your Mother, all nine seasons of it.
Doogie Howser, M.D. featured a young 16-year-old kid with a genius intellect, who becomes a doctor. Harris won hearts all across the world with his terrific outing as Doogie. His role as the teen doctor who has to balance his medical responsibilities, and at the same time, all the regular issues that normally plague teenagers, is remembered to this day by fans of the show.
The original show was the brainchild of David E Kelly and late Steven Bochco, whose widow, Dayna Bochco, and son, Jesse Bochco, are associated with the reboot in the capacity of executive producers. Kang, Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar are the other executive producers of the show, which is being produced by 20th Century Fox.
Disney Plus is also working on the reboot of Turner & Hooch, another eighties favourite.
