Disney wins a big battle to strike down the Pirates now
Richard Mahesh -
What looked like an inevitable cyberwar between the film industry and pirate domains gets more intensified as OTT platforms take over the position to attack torrent sites. Across the years, we have often found the leading Hollywood and International movie studios often approaching the judicial system to impose strict infringements and ban the URLs that serve as an alternative source to pirate the contents and deliver it to the crowds. This time, Disney Enterprises has taken up the issue more seriously and has obtained an order from Delhi High Court compelling local ISPs to block 118 pirate domains. This includes the illegal hubs that relentlessly keep delivering the users with motion pictures, cartoons, and web series.
The hearing from Delhi High Court happened through video conferencing due to the COVID 19 issues. The defendants comprised pirate sites, internet service providers, the Department of Communications (DoT), and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY), and the plaintiffs were business hubs of the USA, who are involved in the production of Motion Pictures and other cinematographic presentations.
