Exclusive: Sorry, Angad Bedi fans. There’s no Arvind Vashishth in Inside Edge Season 3

Amazon Prime Video India’s International Emmy-nominated series ‘Inside Edge’ is certainly the first of its kind for the Indian audience. After all, we’ve never had a web series of this calibre based entirely on a sport, and a fictional event that takes its cue from a very entertaining real one. But fans are in for a serious disappointment after the action-packed second season in 2019, because Angad Bedi won’t be reprising his role as the Powerplay League T20 former Captain of Mumbai Mavericks and current captain of Haryana Hurricanes, Arvind Vashishth.
Arvind is the upstanding and honest captain in the first season who has to compromise with the politics and the corruption of the sport in the second season. Fans were loving the mentor-figure that Arvind was for the rest of his team initially, and then the unlikely rival in the next. His dynamic with Vayu Raghavan (Tanuj Virwani) was lauded. Unfortunately, things haven’t boded as well for Arvind’s character this time around.
Speaking exclusively in an interview with LetsOTT, Angad expressed his disappointment and hope for the character - “Arvind won’t be a part of Inside Edge season 3. Some of it has to do with the fact that work on the character was being done the same time I was shooting for Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl. You can’t be at two places at once.” Bedi played the role of Anshuman Saxena, Gunjan’s elder brother in the Netflix film, which was co-produced by Dharma Productions and Zee Studios, and starred Jahnvi Kapoor in the lead role.
“I also felt, and perhaps so did the writers, that Arvind doesn’t have a lot to add to the story this time around. No character is bigger than the story... than the show. Inside Edge has the ability to go on for a while because it’s got amazing writers, cricket is a religion, and the ‘PPL’ can go on for ages. But I won’t be a part of season 3 because I wouldn’t have much to do for the story as a character.”
There is still hope though because Bedi says that if not season 3, Arvind has great potential to be back with a vengeance in season 4. “Arvind has that energy. There’s always the calm before the storm, and the storm will come with season 4,” he concluded.
Here’s hoping that it does because there’s already a lot of anticipation for the next season of Inside Edge. Just in October, Bedi shared an Instagram post dressed in a uniform for test cricket players, and it sent his followers in a tizzy speculating about Arvind Vashishth’s future. Not much is known about season 3, but at least now we know that hopefully, the show is nearing the end of its writing stage for the upcoming season. Fans can eagerly anticipate updates on the show’s shoot and release now that the restrictions for shooting due to the pandemic have been slightly relaxed.
Meanwhile, Bedi is really enjoying this time in his career. The actor is receiving rave reviews for his work in ALTBalaji and Zee5’s ‘Mum Bhai,’ a crime drama series that premiered on November 12, 2020. The show is produced by Shobhaa and Ekta Kapoor, written by Apoorva Lakhia, and directed by Akshay Chaubey. It also stars Sikander Kher and Sandeepa Dhar. Bedi plays the lead role as Encounter Specialist Bhaskar Shetty.
