Fifth season of Netflix series 'The Crown' goes on floors in summer

The fifth and much awaited season of The Crown will start its filming schedule in July this year. The fourth season, which premiered in November 2020, became the series' most acclaimed season yet with Olivia Coleman playing the Queen Elizabeth, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Tobias Menzies as Prince Phillip, Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher and Emma Corrin Princess Diana. The fifth season is supposed to take place in the present day with a new cast is arriving in the UK to begin production. 

According to Variety, the new cast is streamlining its way to Elstree Studios north of London in preparation for a summer shoot. Hopefully, production is set to go on floors in July after any Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted, although in any case they will follow all precautionary advices. 

The fifth season will see new faces join the team. Elizabeth Debicki will play Princess Diana; Dominic West will play Prince Charles, her estranged husband; Professor Umbridge from Harry Potter, Imelda Staunton will take on The Crown and play The Queen. Leslie Manville is to play Princess Margaret, Game of Thrones' Jonathan Pryce will play Prince Philip. Rest of the cast remains a mystery.
