After a dry few months, it’s time to enjoy a true popcorn flick! Apple TV+ is all set to release Tom Hanks’ action-packed submarine drama with a direct-to-digital release on their platform on July 10. The film, which also boasts of a screenplay by Hanks can be accessed by audiences in over 100 countries next month.
In ‘Greyhound,’ Hanks stars as a longtime Navy veteran who is given the task to protect a convoy of 37 ships which are carrying thousands of soldiers and supplies across the Atlantic Ocean during World War II. This is his first time as captain and he has to cross ‘The Black Pit,’ a dangerous part of the ocean, with only a small force and no air cover. Greyhound is inspired by a true story during the ‘Battle of the Atlantic,’ between the American Navy and Nazi U-boats,a and is based on a book by C.S. Forester. It is directed by Aaron Schneider and produced by Gary Goetzman.
Greyhound was acquired by Apple post the coronavirus pandemic lockdown. This is the second Playtone Production to partner with Apple after the drama series ‘Masters of the Air,’ which is also executive produced by Tom Hanks, along with Gary Goetzman and Steven Spielberg.
