Here are the top 10 streaming apps that made noise in 2019!
MX Player, continuing its steady march in the streaming space over a year and a half, has affirmed its position as the top choice of viewers yet again. In the FICCI annual report on India’s media and entertainment sector titled ‘The era of consumer A.R.T’, the body had listed the streaming platform as the number one platform in the country that has managed to woo the eyeballs of 280 million viewers globally and 175 million viewers in India. The ‘top entertainment apps of 2019’ list was prepared on the basis of the MAUs of every application (monthly active users).
Several other prominent streaming platforms made it to the top-ten list including Hotstar (ranked at 2), JioTV (ranked at 5), Amazon Prime Video (ranked at 6), Netflix (ranked at 7), Sony LIV (ranked at 8) and Voot (ranked at 10). The report made a special mention for Hotstar as well, acknowledging cricket-heavy season as a key driver of growth in the year. The one-rupee per day package was highlighted for its success, so much that the report indicated that around 40% of IPL consumption happened on Hotstar.
Indians on an average had reportedly spent over 3.5 hours a day on their phones, once again indicating how online content popularity has been on the surge. The report otherwise would have been officially released as part of FICCI Frames, which the body had cancelled owing to the exceptional circumstances brought about by the coronavirus.
