What is the story about?

How I Became A Superhero is set in modern-day Paris, where many individuals out there are gifted with a super power of their own. However, the presence of mortals in the society isnt acceptable with one and all, as they get introduced to a new drug which gives them the much-needed superpowers, and also brings a ton of trouble along.

How I Became A Superhero shares its plot with another Netflix film which came by in the recent past - Project Power. The film gains its color and look from other superhero films of American origin, and adheres well to the sensibilities of the genre at first. However, what this new film lacks is the presence of interesting plot points that drive the story forward, leaving it reeling at many important junctures. What looks like a very exciting story at first soon dwells into a lot of familiarity, and sketches through with the mere advantages of the cast in hand, and the film’s tone that is set right from the beginning. The amount of time that is taken to introduce the film’s main characters and its world, would have been more expansive and useful in a series rather than a film, as there is too much setup before we reach what we actually need.

How I Became A Superhero has some good names in the cast - whether they are well-known or great new feathers isn't important as almost everybody in the list does a good job, small or big. The film is never really about a singular character, and makes good use of its ensemble. And yes, the scenes pictured on Pio Marmai and Vimala Pons are interesting to watch.

The film gets it right with respect to its props and costumes, which are very important for such a genre. However, the other technicalities are purely functional and could have been even better.

The film has a handful of punchy sequences pictured on Marmai and Pons.

It gets too familiar after a point, taking tropes out of other films in the genre originating from America.

Did I enjoy it?

In parts alone. This is a film that doesn’t live up to its potential.

Do I recommend it?

If you are a fan of the superhero genre, this could be a good time pass outing. Otherwise, you’re better off looking away.
