What is the story about?
After the events of Season 1, young lawyer Niharika Singh starts her own practice, while her old boss, the wily Janardhan Jaitley, tries to embrace a political career. But when Niharika gets the high-profile Pinnacle case, circumstances force her to face off against Janardhan in the courtroom? Who will have the last laugh?
Voot Select's engrossing legal drama Illegal was a nifty show in its first season, and there's something compelling about Ashwini Chaudhary's direction that makes it stand out in this second season as well. Niharika is the protagonist who is supposed to be the one garnering the audience's sympathy. Yet, unlike the first season, the characters are much more nuanced and developed. It's still frothy and not always subtle, and there are a few places in the screenplay where the writing slackens in pace a bit. Overall, though, this series is an engrossing watch.
The entire cast is well-chosen, and actors such as Akshay Oberoi, Achint Kaur, Sonnalli Seygall, Sheeba Chaddha and Atul Tiwari do well in their respective parts. However, the show belongs to two actors, and it is a blast to watch Neha Sharma and Piyush Mishra play off each other in the courtroom scenes.
