What is the story about?

Igor Grom is a skilled cop who always finds himself running into troubles of some sorts. However, when his city is scarred by the recent killings of a masked vigilante, Igor and a newly recruited rookie must get together and track down the criminal mastermind. What follows is a Marvel-DC styled adventure that puts together many action sequences, cool turns and a lot of style.

Taking bits and pieces of inspiration from the famous Marvel and DC films, Major Grom: Plague Doctor builds its own universe in true comic book style, staying true to the sensibilities of such films that we have seen round the globe. The film has a great start, and capitalizes on that using the introductory sequence to also introduce its characters, build its world and also start putting across the elements of the story that is coming through. The film is not perfectly paced, but whenever it plans and executes a big sequence, there is definitely a spark flying out there. Though the length of the narrative should have been cut down, Major Grom has a lot of things going for it which make it a fine action film that you can watch with the family.

Tikhon Zhiznevsky who plays Grom is a sport and he takes up the job with great elan, doing his part with style. He may not have been able to emote much, but he pulls up his socks when it comes to the important and the action-packed stretches in the film. The film benefits from its good cast, which has names such as Lyubov Aksyonova and Sergey Goroshko who help it shine.

Music & Other Departments

The cinematography, visual effects and the stunt sequences in the film are simply fantastic and aid the big setpieces superbly. The film feels grand on the whole, the money being visible on screen.

The film’s enjoyable mood on the whole is a plus point.

The film’s pacing allows a lot of dialogue-heavy scenes to roll over, which could have been cut down.

Did I enjoy it?

Yes. I had complaints about the film but it was still a good watch on the whole.

Do I recommend it?

If you are a fan of such comic book films, Major Grom: Plague Doctor will definitely be a solid time-killer over the week. Catch it if you can.
