Mani Ratnams mega project to enter the OTT space for a noble cause!

Everyone’s aware of Maniratnam’s dream project “Ponniyin Selvan”. The team has finished almost 40% of the shoot at exotic forest locations in Thailand. One of the most talked-about the project not only across the Tamil film industry but its counterparts too. It has an ensemble cast of Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Trisha among the others. Everything seemed on scheduled and the first look created a huge mill among the fans and the people from the industry. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Indian schedule of the shoot has been indefinitely postponed. Since it’s a period project it demands hundred of extras and crew members to be present on the sets, which doesn’t look like a practical decision to take at the moment.

Meanwhile, there was a buzz which came across quite strongly stating that Mani Ratnam is moving on to another project and might be a sequel to his blockbuster “Roja”. But the other sources reported it may be a totally different project which has nothing to do with the former.

But interesting news has emerged among all these speculations. Writer, director and producer Mani Ratnam is entering the OTT space and will be producing a web series. The much-debated topic at the moment in the industry is OTT Vs Theatrical Release and its pros and cons. This is huge news as this could open the doors which were shut before due to reservations.

This web series is produced by Mani Ratnam will have nine short stories and is based on the Navarasas in Indian mythology. Mani Ratnam will serve as the producer and the creative director, while the nine short stories will have nine different directors. Out of which we have the list 5 directors who will be part of this mega project.

1.   Mani Ratnam
2.   Gautam Vasudev Menon
3.   Bejoy Nambiar
4.   Aravind Samy
5.   Karthick Naren

And it is said Amazon Prime Video will be streaming this mega project. The highlight of this project is that the money collected through the show will go towards the technicians and crew members of the Tamil film industry who have lost their livelihood due to this pandemic.

How excited are you about this project? And what other names do you wish to see adding to this list? Please let us know your list of directors and artists in the comments.
