Marzi Review- Engaging and gripping thriller

Marzi Review- Engaging and gripping thriller

The Story
Dr Anurag (Rajeev Khandelwal), a well-renowned doctor in Shimla, goes on a dinner date with school teacher Sameera (Kumra) which leads to him being accused of rape. The case soon starts getting murkier as it is revealed that Sameera suffers depression ever since her parents'death and has gone off her medication.  With every reveal during the police investigation, if one question gets answered, there are new ones which pop up. Marzi also mentions the #MeToo movement. It also throws light on the trials and tribulations a rape victim goes through during medical examination and police investigation.

Analysis
Without getting into details about the sub-plots, let me tell you the screenplay is quite dynamic and the frames change rapidly, much to the delight of the audiences. Kudos to writer Radhika Anand and director Anil Senior for a tightly knit screenplay. However, the show belongs to  Aahana Kumra Kumra and Rajeev Khandelwal, who with their compelling performances draw you to the screen. There are times when you find yourself sympathising with Sameera and sometimes with Dr Anurag. The story is so gripping that it seems every character has a grey side to their personalities and that no one is all good or all bad.  Other characters played by able actors like Shivani Tanksale, Rajeev Siddharth, Vivek Mushran and Suhaas Ahuja too have their dark secrets, and everyone appears to be hiding something or the other. The setting of the web series is Shimla, but you get to see little of the scenic mountains. Most of the action happens inside the confined walls of either a hospital, a school or in their house. The background music gets jarring at times, making it difficult to hear the dialogues. There is a certain twist that occurs in the story which will take you by surprise as it did for me.

Our Take
Apart from a few plotholes, this show is quite engaging and makes up for an excellent, gripping watch.
