As his ‘Sorry to Bother You’ comes to Netflix on 6th July, director Boots Riley has made a public announcement that he has started work on a new series which will star Moonlight actor Jharrel Jerome in the lead role. Titled ‘I’m a Virgo’, the series will talk about a 13-foot Black man who resides in Oakland.
Riley described the series as dark, absurd, hilarious and important through his tweet, which also said that the show would be produced by Michael Ellenberg’s Media Res. However, the media partner or the streaming network for the show is yet to be decided upon.
Riley’s ‘Sorry to Bother You’ is another interesting take on racism and the struggle in the Bay Area, when a telemarketer finds his way up the ladder when he adopts a white voice to speak over the phone to his customers. The film starring Lakeith Stanfield also had Tessa Thompson and Armie Hammer coming in for some strong appearances. Netflix has acquired the rights of the film, two years post the release, and is bringing it out in the first week of July.
