Mubi takes rights to Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard starrer Cannes opening film 'Annette'

Leos Carax directorial Annette has been acquired by Mubi for UK and Ireland. The acquisition succeeds another film Paul Verhoeven’s Benedetta last month. Annette, headlined by Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard would be premiering on the streaming platform on September 3rd. It would be the opening film at Cannes Film Festival on July 6th, ahead of its French release the next day.

Simon Helberg (The Big Bang Theory) and Belgian singer-songwriter Angèle in her acting debut join Driver and Cotillard in the film. Set in contemporary Los Angeles, Annette tells the story of Henry (Driver), a stand-up comedian with a fierce sense of humour who falls in love with Ann (Cotillard), a world-renowned opera singer. Under the spotlight, the pair forms a passionate and glamorous couple. With the birth of their first child, the titular Annette, a mysterious little girl with an exceptional destiny, their lives are turned upside down.

Ron Mael and Russell Mael of pop and rock duo Sparks have penned the script of Annette which also features songs from Sparks and music producer Marius de Vries. Charles Gilibert, Paul-Dominique Win Vacharasinthu and Driver are the producers of the feature.
