MXPlayer's new web series Bhaukaal is a hard-hitting crime drama.
MXPlayer, in recent times, has made a very subtle but substantial move from creating urban dramas to showcasing more rustic dramas that are set in the vast and vicious heartlands of our diverse country. After bringing for its viewers, the gritty rape and revenge drama 'Madhuri Talkies', which was set in Benares, the prolific streaming platform now brings another hard-hitting crime drama with Uttar Pradesh as its backdrop.
Titled Bhaukaal, the web series is based on true events that took place in the year 2003, in the UP city of Muzaffarnagar, a city notorious as the crime capital of the country. It was a city where lawlessness reigned and the word of the criminal was law. Two gangs controlled the city, the criminal-politician nexus was at its prime and the police force was just a puppet, watching helplessly from the sidelines.
That is when IPS Officer Navniet Sekera was transferred to Muzaffarnagar with the hope of curtailing the rabid lawlessness. And the officer did not disappoint. With relentless courage and determined single-mindedness, the brave officer succeeded in drastically bringing down the crime rates of Muzaffarnagar. Most importantly, he broke the back of the organised crime syndicate in the city.
His is a story that deserves telling. Hence, Bhaukaal. And let's face it. We all love a good crime drama where good prevails over evil, where the villains are vanquished and courage emerges supreme. For fans of the genre, Bhaukaal is that crime drama.
Intriguing storyline aside, another thing that sets MXPlayer's latest offering apart is its superb cast. Hunky dude Mohit Raina plays the character of the courageous police officer. We couldn't agree more with the choice of the makers of the series. If there's one actor who can bring the necessary gravitas and intensity to the role, it is Mohit Raina. We like!
Besides Raina, the series also features actors Abhimanyu Singh, Siddhanth Kapoor, Bidita Bag, Sunny Hinduja, Rashmi Rajput, Pradeep Nagar and Gulki Joshi. It is written by Akash Mohimen, Jay Bansal and Rohit Chauhan, produced by actor-producer Harman Baweja and directed by Jatin Wagle.
All episodes of Bhaukaal are currently streaming on MXPlayer.
