NENT Studios Black Widows is remade by ZEE5.

The latest news is NENT Studios UK has struck a major tow-season deal with one of India’s largest video streaming platform, Zee5 and producer Big Synergy Media Ltd. We will be seeing a localized version of “Black Widows” for Indian audiences. The remake will be based on the Finnish drama of the same, which will have 24 episodes across two seasons.

The original Finnish series was created by Roope Lehtinen and Mikko Polla for Finnish broadcaster Nelonen. Winner of 3 Finnish Venla Awards in 2014 and an International Gold Panda Award for best TV drama; it follows a story of three best friends who try to kill their husbands. But it doesn’t go according to their plan and one of the men survives and looks set on revenge. The friendship between the women and their mutual trust is put to test when their lives start to get even more complicated. How they overcome these hurdles to stay alive follows next.

Tarun Katial, the CEO, ZEE5 India, stated in an interview that “Zee5 has seen exponential growth since launching on the back of great content and technology. With over 100 Original web series and films across genres and languages, our aim is to continue to offer consumers content that is real, and relatable. Black Widows is an engaging story featuring strong female protagonists, with plenty of suspense and a large dose of dark comedy. We saw a great potential and appeal for Indian audiences and found credible partners in NENT Studios UK and Big Synergy Media Ltd. I am sure it will be hugely popular, binge-worthy when it launched later this year.”

This Indian remake will be the eight International remake following versions in Ukraine, Estonia, Lithuania, the Middle East, Mexico, Scandinavia and the Czech Republic. The subject has a universal appeal and theme as Black Widow is a contemporary scripted format that has continuously proved it to be readily adaptable. The first season of the remake is expected to hit the Zee5 platform later this year.
