What is the story about?

Laxman (Rahul Ramakrishna) subscribes to an illegal live streaming service through which he watches the personal lives of Priya (Avika Gor) and her boyfriend Ranjith (Vishwa Dev) through hidden cameras in their apartment. What are the fateful consequences for his malicious act? How does it affect his personal life?

Analysis

NET is a tech thriller which is vaguely based on the cyber crimes that we keep hearing everyday. The plot might seem a bit farcical for the native audiences but nevertheless, it has a fresh premise. The concept of a debt-ridden Hyderabadi Galli (alleyway) resident burning his pocket to watch the personal lives of a young urbane couple through spy cameras sounds interesting. But the narration is uneven. The whole Rahul going out of his way to gather money to pay the subscription fee to live stream the lives of the young couple track is dealt with in a good manner. But the drama that is generated towards the end as the couple realize they are being cheated looks forced, owing to poor writing. The core conflict needed more attention to detail. Had the climax portion been more compelling, the film would have made for a much better watch.

Performances

Rahul Ramakrishna shines in this seemingly challenging role. He shoulders the film with his brilliant performance. Avika bags a meaty role and she delivers what is expected of her. Praneetha as Rahul’s wife comes up with a pretty good performance. Vishwa Dev does a decent job.

Music & Other Departments

NET is powered by its scintillating background score. The soundtrack elevates the intensity of the proceedings on so many occasions through the course of the film. Cinematography is neat and so is the editing.

Highlights

Rahul’s winning act.

Drawbacks

The poorly conceived climax.

Did I enjoy it?

Yes, in parts.

Do I recommend it?

Yes, but keep your expectations in check.
