Netflix acquires Benedict Cumberbatch starrer limited series '39 Steps'

Netflix has landed the limited series The 39 Steps based on the thriller novel by John Buchan of the same name that was also adapted by Alfred Hitchcock into a movie in 1935. The series would be a sort of remake in it that the events of the book will take place in the present day. Cumberbatch is teaming up again with Patrick Melrose director Edward Berger who is set to direct the limited series on a script by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant).

As reported by Deadline, the six-part hour-long series will be executive produced by Cumberbatch and his partner Adam Ackland under their banner SunnyMarch. Smith and Berger will also serve as executive producers alongside Sophie Gardiner for Chapter One Pictures, Cliff Roberts for Syndicate Entertainment and Keith Redmon for Anonymous Content.

The story of the action-packed conspiracy thriller series revolves around an ordinary man, Richard Hannay, who becomes an unwitting pawn in a vast, global conspiracy to reset the world order: 39 Steps that will change the world as we know it, with only Hannay standing in the way.
