Netflix Creates New Docuseries Based on Elisa Lam Murder/Suicide Case

The Elisa Lam case of 2013 has boggled geniuses and amateur sleuths alike since the past decade. The 21 year old Canadian student who went missing in her hotel in Los Angeles has been the topic of hot debates and for all the right reasons. Now, the case has been taken up for a docuseries on Netflix which is aptly titled, Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel. The limited four-episode series will be directed by Joe Berlinger who will also act as its executive producer and it will be released on the OTT platform on February 10 of this year.

The intriguing case of Elisa Lam has been able to hold the attention of many who have come across her disappearance and subsequent murder/suicide and one of them seems to be Berlinger. Talking about his directorial he said that what interested him about Lam’s case was not her actual disappearance but the place from which she disappeared, The Cecil Hotel, which may have had humble beginnings but surely had turned quite sinister with its list of occupants. The case was brought to Berlinger’s attention by journalist Josh Dean who is also the series’ producer.

The series that will document Lam’s disappearance and subsequent clues like her last seen footage of the elevator, her possessions that she left in her room etc., will also delve deeper and have interviews of people who knew her, who had seen her, the hotel’s employees and the people who had taken up the case in 2013.

Crime Scene is supposed to be a seasonal series of Netflix, with the first chapter starting with Lam’s disappearance. It is an Imagine Documentaries and RadicalMedia production in association with Third Eye Motion Picture Company with executive producers Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Justin Wilkes, Sara Bernstein, Jon Doran, Jon Kamen and Ryan Miller. John Wilkes who also worked with the director on The Ted Bundy Tapes, says he is excited to be a part of this new venture.
