Netflix India unveils a slate of new docuseries and documentaries coming in 2021

Netflix has unveiled a new slate of docu-series and documentaries which will be releasing on the streamer in 2021. Not only true crime, but the slate will also look at the life of the iconic figure Ma Sheela, who shot up to fame especially after the documentary series 'Wild Wild Country'. The slate was unveiled in an event held today 'See What's Next India' in which the documentaries were unveiled as part of 41 titles — across original series, films, documentaries, reality TV, and stand-up comedy specials — most of which will release in the 2021 calendar year. 

'Crime Stories: Indian Detectives', directed by Jack Warrender and N Amit looks at the Bengaluru City Police's investigations from the moment the crime is reported through to the capture of the suspects. The docuseries looks at the workings of the police at their most strenuous times with inputs from senior officers at home and at work, this is a unique window into the lives of Bengaluru's police officers as they attempt to detect the most complex and serious crimes in the city. The series is being produced by Claire Cahill and Tarun Saldanh. 

Looking at Indian orthodox/traditional families 'House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths' is a three-part docuseries that briefly looks at the shocking case of the infamous Burari case, where 11 members of a ‘happy' family, spanning three generations, were found dead inside their house in Delhi. The docuseries is being directed by Leena Yadav, Anubhav Chopra.  Produced by Yamini Pictures, the series is produced by Aseem Bajaj and Yogendra Mogre. Yadav will also be serving as the showrunner.  

In a first of its kind series based on Indian killers, 'Indian Predator', directed by Ayesha Sood, Umesh Kulkarni, Ashwin Shetty, Dheeraj Jindal, follows the stories of different Indian killers, the deadliest of them all, with never seen before footage and never-before-heard details of gruesome killings as individuals who were at the epicentre of these crimes talk about what went down.  The series is a collaborative project of Vice Media and India Today. 

'Searching for Sheela' is a documentary based on the life and lies of Ma Anand Sheela, Osho's controversial ex-secretary as she returns to India after living 34 years in exile. After the world looked at her through the lens of ' Wild Wild Country', this feature film will present the world with new facts as one of the most iconic and controversial figures, even a pop icon makes her journey through India, with audiences unable to decide if they deem her a “criminal” or remain in awe of her sassy secretary days. A production of Dharmatic Entertainment and Jouska Films, the documentary is executive produced by Shakun Batra and produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra.
