Netflix lands psychological thriller 'The Weekend Away'

Bestselling author Sarah Alderson will adapt her novel The Weekend Away into a feature film for Netflix. Leighton Meester (The Roommate, Gossip Girl, Single Parents), Christina Wolfe (Batwoman, The Royals), Ziad Bakri (Blind Sun, Screwdriver, Le Bureau de Legendes) and Luke Norris (Poldark, Been So Long) make up the cast of the feature.
The official logline of The Weekend Away is thus, "A weekend getaway to Croatia goes awry when a woman is accused of killing her best friend and her efforts to get to the truth uncover a painful secret."
The Weekend Away will be directed by Kim Farrant (Strangerland, Angel of Mine) and produced by Ben Pugh, Charlie Morrison and Erica Steinberg for 42 as part of their overall deal with Netflix. Sarah Alderson (S.W.A.T) will be adapting her own novel as the feature film for Netflix. Kari Hatfield for 42 is set as the executive producer.
Alderson spoke about her book being adapted into the feature film, "I am so excited to see The Weekend Away make it to the screen. To have adapted my own novel makes it even more special, and I am thrilled that Leighton will be bringing this character to life.”
