Netflix, the OTT Leader based in California streams everywhere in the globe except for China and North Korea. The American based firm was started 22 years ago in 1997 by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph. It is estimated that Netflix has 183 Million users on the planet and their revenue is estimated at $20 Billion in the year 2019.
Amazon Prime Video, who has positioned themselves at the second place. The company was launched in 2006 by it's Parent Company - Amazon's Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos. It was launched in 2006 with a different name - Amazon Unbox and it was again renamed as Amazon Video on Demand. Prime which has its HQ in Seattle holds 150 Million users in the globe. Disney Plus, the company owned by Walt Disney Inc. has acquired the third position worldwide. The company was launched by Disney less than a year back in 2019. But, their consumer count is now estimated at 55 Million. Besides the variety of films, another important reason for the growth of the company is their acquisition of Hotstar in India. India, with a population of 135 Crores enjoys various programmes from the Star Group's OTT Platform. So, this move from Disney in April raised their subscriber count into millions.
Hulu, another acquired product of Walt Disney Inc. takes the fourth position. The company was launched into the market, 13 Years ago in 2007. The company was found by Jason Kilar. Right now, Walt Disney owns the 67% stake of the company which makes them having full control over the film. Whereas, 33% of the company's shares are owned by Comcast Corporation. The OTT streams many contents from Japan as well through their partner Nippon TV. It is estimated that there are 32 Million Hulu users out there on the planet. The company's HQ is located in Santa Monica, California.
Keeping all this aside, there are upcoming key players in the marketplace like Apple TV+ and the most recently launched HBO Max. A US Based analyst suggest that HBO Max is estimated to have 75 - 90 Million users by the year, 2025. Also, Apple TV which was launched 7 months ago is continuing to gain more subscribers month after month.
