Netflix has confirmed the production of Remarriage & Desires. Remarriage & Desires is a satire of Korean society that is governed by desire. Set at the exclusive matchmaking agency Rex catering to the top echelons of society, ambitious souls hope to upgrade their status by marrying or remarrying into the ranks of the elite. They aspire to nab someone from the “Black” tier, the highest group consisting of the top 0.001 per cent of the population.
Kim Hee-seon, who has demonstrated her star appeal in dramas such as Alice, The Lady in Dignity and Angry Mom, returns as Seo Hye-seung, a middle-class housewife from Gangnam who loses everything overnight. At Rex, she chances upon Jin Yoo-hui, who is responsible for turning Hye-seung’s life upside-down. She enters into a race driven by a desire to find someone from the Black tier.
Lee Hyun-wook, whose recent performance in Mine left a strong impression with the viewers, plays Lee Hyung-ju, a self-made man and the chairman of a venture capital firm. His personal assets are in the billions, placing him in the “Black” tier and making him a bachelor targeted by ambitious brides. Hyung-ju plans to overcome the failure of his first marriage and find a new partner who will better suit him.
Jung Eugene of the dramas Something in the Rain and Romance Is a Bonus Book plays Jin Yoo-hui, a hotshot corporate lawyer who will stop at nothing to climb the ladder to the top echelons of society.
Park Hoon made his name known as an actor with the role of First Sergeant Choi Woo-geun in Descendants of the Sun and has continued to build up his career in the drama Memories of Alhambra and the film Midnight. Park plays the role of Cha Seok-jin, Hye-seung’s heartbreaking first love. He is also embroiled in a conflict with Choi Yoo-sun over his father’s enormous fortune.
Cha Ji-yeon, who has appeared in various musicals, dramas and films, takes on the role of Choi Yoo-sun, an influential person who is the CEO of Rex. She boasts a pool of the most eligible, cream-of-the-crop bachelors in Korea.
Writer Lee Geun young, who penned the dramas I’m the Mother, Too and My Mother is a Daughter-in-law, and Producer Kim Jung-min of Love Affair In The Afternoon and Bad Guys helm this razor-sharp representation of the hypergamy market where money and power reign supreme over love. Tiger Studio and Image9 Communications oversee production.
Remarriage & Desires bares the true colours of our society and human nature; it is an honest look at how desire and ambition can run amok under the guise of love and lifetime partnership. This unconventional, satirical series will be released to over 190 countries around the world only through Netflix.
