Based on the 2018 novel of the same name by pseudonymous author A.J Finn, the film is being directed by Joe Wright (Darkest Hour, Atonement) from a screenplay by Tracy Letts. The film is set to release on the streaming platform Netflix on May 14 than the earlier set date of May 15. The film has an impressive cast lineup including Gary Oldman (Harry Potter, Darkest Hour), Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and The Winter Soldier), Fred Hechinger (News of the World), Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and The Winter Soldier), Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta), Jennifer Jason Leigh (Atypical) and Julianne Moore (After the Wedding). The feature is being produced by Scott Rudin, Eli Bush and Anthony Katagas.
The synopsis of the film is thus, "an agoraphobic psychologist befriends a neighbour across the street from her New York City brownstone condo, only to see her own life turned upside down when the woman disappears and she suspects foul play."
'The Woman in the Window' was originally scheduled for a theatrical debut distributed by 20th Century Studios on October 4, 2020, and then May 15, 2020, but the plans went down the drain due to the pandemic and the lockdown. It was then sold to Netflix and is now slated to release on the streamer on May 14.
