LetsOTT Editorial Team -
Sam Elliot, Laurence Fishburne and Mickey Rourke will be joining Kristen Wiig, Will Forte and Ryan Phillippe in the new Peacock series MacGruber that will be a continuation of the 2010 cult movie of the same name based on Forte's recurring character when he was a cast member on SNL. The eight-episode action series will have Forte and Wiig reprise their characters from their stint on SNL along with Phillipe who will be reprising his role only from the film as MacGruber, Vicki St. Elmo and Dixon Piper.
As reported by Deadline, the Peacock series will follow America’s ultimate hero and uber patriot MacGruber (Forte) who after rotting in prison for over a decade, is finally released. His mission: to take down a mysterious villain from his past—Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth (Rourke). With the entire world in the crosshairs, MacGruber must reassemble his old team, Vicki St. Elmo (Wiig) and Dixon Piper (Phillippe) in order to defeat the forces of evil.
MacGruber’s rock has always been his father, Perry will be played by Elliot. Though they’ve drifted apart over the years, MacGruber will need his father’s sage guidance if he hopes to succeed.
A highly decorated soldier who commands the respect of the entire US military, Fishburne is General Barrett Fasoose. In addition to his illustrious career, he is currently married to MacGruber’s ex-wife, Vicki St. Elmo.
Rourke’s Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth is one of MacGruber’s mortal enemies. Long thought dead, he has resurfaced to carry out a heinous plot to destroy the world, and in the process, claim his revenge against MacGruber.
Forte will write and executive produce MacGruber alongside John Solomon and Jorma Taccone who will also both direct. Also executive producing are Lorne Michales, John Goldwyn, Andrew Singer and Erin David. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Broadway Video are the studios for developing the series.
