Soorarai Pottru: Are the makers of the Suriya starrer eyeing a release on an OTT platform?
Siddarth Srinivas -
Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru was expected to be one of the biggest films of the 2020 summer. The big-budget semi-biographical drama is based on the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan, India’s first budget airline. Suriya plays Nedumaran Rajangam, a man from the countryside who comes to the city with a passion for planes. The film’s teaser which was released earlier this year bagged a fantastic response from the fans, loved for the visuals and the music.
The makers have now come up with an official creative, saying that the film has been censored with a U. With a sudden announcement on the censor result coming up out of thin air, fans are now eager to know the release update on the film. With such an update, some of the fans are under the impression that the film is on its way for a big release on an OTT platform.
However, there is no such intention from the team, who dismissed all kind of ‘OTT’ talks when we contacted them. The team is now looking at a positive situation where the Coronavirus outbreak will subside, post which they can bring the film to theatres worldwide. Though it will take some time, the team are strong on their decision to release the film first in theatres alone.
However, the deal for the post-release digital rights of the film is already locked. Popular streaming platform Amazon Prime has bagged the rights of the film and will be streaming it after its theatrical run is completed.
We have to wait and see, on what further updates we will get in this regard. For now, Soorarai Pottru is not coming to OTT directly!
