Sorry film fans! You may have to wait a bit longer for Laxxmi Bomb, The Big Bull, and Bhuj the Pride of India

Akshay Kumar’s Laxxmi Bomb, Abhishek Bachchan-starrer The Big Bull and Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj: The Pride of India, are amongst some of the big-ticket films that have been acquired by Disney+ Hotstar as part of their ‘multiplex’ package, where films have been releasing directly on OTT and skipping a theatrical release. The latest in that regard is that while the exact release date of these films wasn’t finalized, all three films may be delayed due to the upcoming season of the IPL.
Hotstar has already released films like Dil Bechara, Lootcase, Khuda Hafiz, and Sadak 2 and the calendar for the rest of the bouquet is being deciphered. According to a source speaking to Bollywood Hungama, “IPL is one of the biggest events in India, and they don’t want to dilute the impact of films by releasing them on the same platform in the midst of IPL. Hence, after several meetings, they decided on holding them back until November.” It seems that Laxxmi Bomb could be slated for Diwali week, while Bhuj and The Big Bull in late November and mid-December release, respectively. “The idea is to have constant flow of viewers on hotstar. While September and October will be taken care off by IPL, Laxmmi Bomb will arrive in November to get the subscribers and viewership increased. Finally, Bhuj will release in December, thereby putting a closure to the slate of their property called Disney Multiplex.”
In the past, many major films have moved their theatrical release date to avoid clashing with IPL season, and the trend hasn’t changed even now that the films are opting to go digital. At the moment, patchwork shooting of all three films is still pending, likely to wrap by the end of next month. Post-production on The Big Bull is complete, while Bhuj is in progress.
