THE FINAL CALL MOVIE REVIEW

THE FINAL CALL MOVIE REVIEW

Highlighting the troubles, humiliations and vision of five petitioners who challenged Section 377 and dared to hope for a new era of equality, this ZEE5's original web flim, premiered on 19th March 2019, stands out with its little over 90 minutes screenplay. Homophobia has been issue even after the Supreme Court has decriminalised section 377 in 2018. Inspite of making immense progress as a country in every field and having access to so much data and information, people usually let their religious and social beliefs overshadow rational thinking with no regards for the feelings and more importantly the rights of the LGBTQ community. Therefore director Faruk Kabir's and ZEE5's attempt to tell such an important and sensitive story is applaudable. The movie follows complains of 5 different individuals of different backgrounds, from struggling to hide their identities in society, longing for acceptance and hoping for a better tomorrow, to the landmark decision of September 2018. Full marks to the Cinematographer for keeping the shots relevant and trying to connect with the audience with a very realistic approach. Zeeshan Ayyub shines as a homosexual social worker, running an NGO that helps spreading awareness about AIDS and Kumud Mishra with his convincing dilogue delivery is good in a negative role. Maanvi Gagroo, after 'Four More Shots Please' is just unstoppable and I was impressed with Titli actor Shashank too. Rest of the cast play small but yet very important parts with great ease. The movie is to the point and inspite of a fast paced script that sometimes disengages form time to time, doesn't fail to emphasise on points like pink economy that lead to the verdict. I encourage everyone to watch this movie and am sure you will have a different perspective on this topic. Ratings 3/5
