What is the story about?

Aishwarya Rajesh is introduced to us as a cop who gets entangled with a case where her childhood friend goes missing, and she is put into the thick of things quickly. As Aishwarya falls in love with a small-time actor, things start to cut too close as the case thickens.

Analysis

Plan B rolls out as a straightforward crime drama from the beginning, with its balanced set of events which are interesting and basic in equal counts. The film’s neat narrative is packed with events that dont surprise us too much, but at the same time, they are not too boring. However, it rapidly picks up its pace towards the end by pulling a rabbit out of the hat, bringing in a climax which not many would expect. The film’s closure is what makes it special, and will make it a memorable watch on the whole.

Performances

Aishwarya Rajesh really brings in a new shade to the usual female cop outings we have seen in Tamil cinema, without introducing any kind of a forced swag, and only doing what is required. The film hops along comfortably mainly due to her performance, which is well supported by the newcomer Subhash, who is very impressive right from the first frame. The film has a good support cast too, which is largely packed with newcomers who do their bit well.

Music & Other Departments

Thittam Irandu has some solid cinematography by Gokul Benoy, who is becoming the go-to man for such small-budget thrillers. The frame composition for the film of this scale is really good, and complements the story well. The other aspects such as the music and editing are functional.

Highlights

Aishwarya Rajesh’s performance and the final stretch making this a film worth seeing.

Drawbacks

The film’s first half sticks to the basics and could have cut done on the cheesiness.

Did I enjoy it?

Yes. This was a fine film that kept me engaged.

Do I recommend it?

Yes. If you are not expecting too much, this will be a good watch.
