Artemis Fowl was a potential summer release for Walt Disney Studios. This apparently had to resort to their OTT platform Disney+ which will be streaming from June 12th, 2020.
The film has a grandeur set up where Artemis Fowl as a 12-year-old genius and a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds is in search for his father, who has mysteriously disappeared and comes into conflict with the hidden world of dark secrets. The film is an adaptation based on 2001 novel of the same name by Eoin Colfer and directed by Kenneth Branagh. It stars Ferdia Shaw in the lead along with Colin Farrell, Laura McDonnell and Josh Gad.
The fans of the novel don’t seem to favour the film as they claim the film might ruin the books. Hope the makers have done justice to it and we’ll come to know once it’s released this Friday. This criticism is nothing new to films which were adapted from bestselling novels. It’ll be surprising if there’s no criticism at all.
If you see, the trailer promises to be a fantasy action-adventure film which would’ve been a visual treat on the large cinema screen. But due to the pandemic, it will be available on Disney+ Hotstar from 12th June 2020.
