It’s that time of the year when Halloween does appear, and Hulu has us covered. The first official trailer for their Sundance satire, ‘Bad Hair’ is here, and we must say that it’s unlike anything we’ve seen before.
From the creator of ‘Dear White People,’ comes a follow-up comment on standards of beauty, specifically in the Black community. In ‘Bad Hair,’ an ambitious young woman (Elle Lorraine) has to get a weave to fit into the image-obsessed world of music television in the late 1980s. What initially proves to be a boom for her career, becomes detrimental for herself when her new weave develops demonic powers. Yep, you read that right. The trailer is bold, sassy, and stylish, but it’s also creepy as hell and high on a kitschy 80s pop aesthetic.
When ‘Bad Hair’ was first out at Sundance, Lorraine’s performance was massively applauded. You’d be familiar with her work as ‘Trina’ on Insecure. But the film isn’t without its star-billings. The cast includes big names like Vanessa Williams, Kelly Rowland, Blair Underwood, and Usher, apart from Jay Pharoah, Lena Waithe, and James Van Der Beek.
Bad Hair is one of the four horror releases this month for Hulu, although there’s plenty of comedy and satire in it to go around. The film hits the service on October 23. Check out the trailer here!
