Netflix’s upcoming anime, Blood of Zeus, is already one of the most anticipated shows for this season and that’s within reason. We rarely get to see this part of world history so beautifully crafted through traditional animation techniques, and we must say that the trailer has us impressed too!

Powerhouse Animation Studios, the home of the Castlevania adaptation, is the name behind the show. Safe to say that we should expect minimal CGI and extra visual effects, and mostly hand-drawn animation to the story of a new hero.

‘Blood of Zeus’ refers to Heron, a young man who happens to be the illegitimate son of Greek God, Zeus (seriously, look up the history… Zeus had a notoriously wild life). Anyway, Heron is the only one capable to save the Heavens and the Earth from a deadly demon. Not just that, there’s even a goddess who is out for his blood. It’s dramatic, colorful, and beautifully blends the tradition of mythology and animation with the technology of streaming.

The voice cast also features some significant names like Derek Phillips (Friday Night Lights), Jason O’ Mara (Agents of SHIELD), Mamie Gummer (The Good Wife, Mr. Robot), Chris Diamantopoulos (Silicon Valley), Jessica Henwick (Game of Thrones), Melina Kanakaredes (Providence), and Claudia Christian (Babylon 5). Phillips, O’ Mara, and Christian have been cast as Heron, Zeus, and his wife Hera, respectively. Gummer plays the role of Electra who is a significant character in history, so we feel that she may enjoy a prominent role here as well.

Writers Charley and Vlas Parlapanides have previously worked on Immortals and Netflix’s Death Note movie. The series has been helmed by Shaunt Nigoghossian, who has been part of the Justice League action team.

Blood of Zeus is part of several Netflix anime shows which have debuted recently, and the roster just grows. It will begin streaming on October 27, 2020.
