Trailer Touchdown Churails: Zee5’s first Pakistani original series, is bold and fierce!
Just a few days ago, we heard the announcement that Zee5 had commissioned its first Pakistan-made original series, ‘Churails,’ due to stream at the beginning of August. The streaming service unveiled the trailer on 30 July to give audiences a sneak peek into what the show has to offer, and we’re stumped.
The 10-episode series is about ‘Churails,’ a group of independent and feisty women who come together to operate a covert detective agency which exposes philandering and unfaithful husbands. While their missions are mostly focused on the city’s elite, soon enough they become vigilantes who are protecting victims of abuse and misdemeanor. One of the missions, unfortunately, results in someone’s demise, and soon enough, everything that they stand for starts to unravel. From the looks of the trailer, the show is intriguing and dark, but also extremely empowering and progressive. Some notable storylines will cover sexual discrimination, child abuse, class dynamics, amongst others.
Churails is directed by Asim Abbasi, who in 2018 made his debut as a feature film director with the comedy film Cake. Cake was Pakistan’s entry into the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film that year but did not make it to the shortlist. The film was highly critically acclaimed across the globe, though.
Considering the nature and subject matter of the show, and the political tension between the two countries, it is an interesting move on the part of Zee5 to give Churails the green light and be its worldwide streaming partner. But since Zee5 operates under the Zee broadcast group, which has a bouquet that includes several Pakistani shows that are shown on Zindagi, it is not completely surprising.
Churails stars Sarwat Gilani Mirza, Nimra Bucha, Mehar Bano, and Yasra Rizvi, and will premiere on 11th August 2020 in its entirety. The season has 10 episodes timed at around 55 minutes each.
