Four African-American Vietnam veterans return to Vietnam in search of their fallen squad leader’s remains. Also to retrieve the buried treasure they found during the war. This will be the first outing of Spike Lee after his much acclaimed BlacKkKlansman which won the Grand Prix at the Cannes followed by six Oscar nominations that year.
The grapevine is “Da 5 Bloods” will be competing at the Cannes Film Festival 2020. Spike Lee admits to being inspired by Ford Coppola’s “Apocalypse Now” and “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre” by John Houston, also said loves to pay homage to films he loves in an interview with Vanity Fair.
From the looks of the trailer and buzz, it will be doing the rounds at Cannes film festival, that being said we can say Spike Lee’s new offering will be a strong contender at the Academy Awards 2020. After Netflix’s stint with Martin Scorsese, Alphonso Cuaron and Jonah Baumbach, this would serve as a new dimension to their ecstatic collections of content.
Not to forget the obvious, our very own Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman is donning the role of one of the 5 veterans in the film and its reason enough not to miss this one. It has a power-packed ensemble of actors which include Delroy Lindo, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Jonathan Majors and Jasper Pääkkönen.
Da 5 Bloods is set to premiere on Netflix this coming June 12th, 2020.
