The scene is an upmarket city apartment and some unaware couples just thought that they were going to enjoy spending time with friends over drinks and dinner. What they don’t know is that there’s a dead body who is someone’s +1. Get ready for Kadakh, a dark comedy which may as well quickly descend into a satire on morality, relationships and marriage.

The trailer for Rajat Kapoor’s film was shared yesterday by streaming service Sony LIV, which will be giving it an exclusive digital world premiere. As is the case with most of Kapoor’s previous films, Kadakh features an ensemble cast of some very talented and funny actors led by Ranvir Shorey. In the very first scene of the trailer, Ranvir’s character faces the difficult predicament of watching a man kill himself, the same man whose wife he had slept with earlier. This is, to his chagrin, just a few hours prior to a big bash that he and his wife are throwing for their friends. With nowhere to hide the body (not to mention, a death induced by an affair), the party must go on. The poor friends who get embroiled in the mystery include Cyrus Sahukar, Kalki Koechlin, Mansi Multani, Palomi Ghosh, Rajat Kapoor, Sagar Deshmukh, Shruti Seth, Tara Sharma, and is the acting debut for filmmaker Nupur Asthana.

Kadakh did the rounds of a few film festivals in 2018 and was slated for a theatrical release last year. However, it was dropped from circulation due to the allegations of alleged sexual misconduct against the director. The film will finally see the light of day this year.

Kadakh is available to stream on Sony LIV from June 18 onwards.
