Trailer Touchdown: New Netflix Indian Original series 'She' explores a policewoman's discovery of the power of her sexuality
Netflix today dropped the trailer and premiere date of She of its third Indian Original web series this year, after Jamtara and Taj Mahal 1989.
The trailer lays bare the premise of the series through evocative sequences of vivid scenes that often turn dark and formidable in keeping with the theme of the narrative. The story follows a female constable who is made to impersonate a prostitute by her senior officers, in order to get to the kingpin of a gang of drug dealers. Circumstances take a convoluted turn as she is compelled to sleep with the gang member she had to honey-trap.
Get target is nabbed, but in the process, she discovers that she is in possession of a potent kind of sexuality that wields enormous power. She herself is caught up in the grip of her burgeoning sexuality. Aaditi Pohankar plays the part of the female constable. She comes across as naive, vulnerable and, later, bewildered by the turn of events.
Vijay Varma plays the gang member she helps catch. The trailer traces the woman's metamorphosis from a timid powerless constable to a seductive being who's afraid of herself and what she's turned into, as she says at the end of the trailer. The scenes are handled with subtle sensuousness and quietly sexual undertones.
In addition to the aforementioned, the trailer also brings in an element of thrill and intrigue. In the middle of the dangerous mission, her superiors lose track of her and suspect the worst. One police officer censures the other for putting an inexperienced woman at the forefront of the mission. 'She'll get killed and put us all into trouble", he says.
The series has been written by Bollywood writer-director Imtiaz Ali, whose forte is writing remarkable stories quite different from the usual run-of-the-mill stuff being churned out these days.
'She' will premiere on Netflix on 20th March.
