You need to be a bit of a maverick to take over the world, even if the world in concern is one built by your own volition. In Netflix’s new Italian comedy, an idealistic and gifted engineer is often misunderstood due to his genius. He then builds his own island off the Italian coast and declares it a nation.
‘Rose Island’ starts Elio Germano as the engineer who takes a risk and becomes the enemy of the Italian government in this whimsical feel-good comedy. Netflix released the trailer of the film today and now we’re truly fascinated by the true story that inspired the events of the film. In the trailer, Giorgio is tired of the stuffy rules of ‘60s Italy and builds an island along with some friends and supporters. Soon enough, the Republic of Rose Island starts getting inhabited by people who want to live free by their own rules. There’s even a significant volume of applications for citizenship. The film looks like a hilarious comedy.
Germano won the Silver bear for Best Actor at the 2020 Berlinale for ‘Hidden Away.’ The film co-stars Francois Cluzet, Tom Wlaschiha, Fabrizio Bentivoglio, Luca Zingaretti, Leonardo Lidi, Alberto Astrorri, Violetta Zironi and Matilda De Angelis.
‘Rose Island’ is helmed by Sydney Sibilia who is known for his 2014 Italian crime comedy ‘I Can Quit Whenever I Want’ and its sequels, ‘Masterclass’ and ‘Ad Honore.’ The film premieres on Netflix on November 9.
