Aaron Sorkin’s drama centered around the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago and the peaceful demonstration outside denouncing the ongoing Vietnam War, is perhaps one of the most anticipated films of the year. And the trailer for the film, which was dropped by Netflix today, attempts to capture all of that and more.
‘The Trial of the Chicago 7’ stars Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Alex Sharp, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jeremy Strong, Frank Langella, and John Carroll Lynch. And follows the protest which was met with force by the Chicago Police Department and the National Guard. The new trailer shows the trial that followed as well, as the Nixon administration accused the protestors of creating a riot that put civilians in danger. It also uses the typified Sorkin screenwriting techniques of snappy dialogue and quick edits for effect. We will also see some comical elements in an already heavy story.
‘The Trial of the Chicago 7’ was shot pre-pandemic and is set to premiere on Netflix (and in select theatres) on October 16, just ahead of the 2020 election.
