Vir Das, Nikhil Advani and Applause Entertainment's series 'Hasmukh' set for April release on Netflix
Netflix is poised to release its next Indian Original series Hasmukh as early as this April if media reports are anything to go by. A synopsis for the show is already up on the official Netflix site. Hasmukh marks the maiden collaboration between stand-up comic Vir Das, Bollywood director Nikhil Advani and Aditya Birla Group's Applause Entertainment.
Vir Das and Nikhil Advani have co-written Hasmukh, along with a host of other writers, Nikhil Gonsalves and Suparn Verma, Amogh Ranadive and Neeraj Pandey. Nikhil Gonsalves has also helmed the series.
Hasmukh is a black comedy, with the protagonist's murderous tendencies forming the backdrop of the series. Vir Das plays the titular role of Hasmukh. He's an aspiring comic, who writes good comedy but delivers it badly. By a turn of fate, he realises that when he murders someone, he gets a weird confidence boost that translates on better comic timing and comic delivery on stage.
Thus begins his process of murdering offstage and delivering great performances onstage. His routine even lands him an opportunity with a major comedy reality show in Mumbai. The question is, how long can he keep murdering to keep his mojo going in the world of comedy. The series is partly set in UP and partly in Mumbai.
Besides Das, Hasmukh stars Ranvir Shorey, Amrita Bagchi, Mantra, Ravi Kishan, Manoj Pahwa, Raza Murad and Joanna Robaczewska in crucial roles.
