With 70000 views in a single day, Ka Pae Ranasingam sets a record for ZeePlex!

There was a time when no one would have bought the idea of releasing a big-budget film directly via DTH (or OTT). And here comes Aishwarya Rajesh and Vijay Sethupathi-starrer ‘Ka Pae Ranasingam’ which became the first Tamil film to premiere on a digital platform on a pay-per-view basis, and simultaneously on major DTH platforms for Rs. 199. But that’s not all, the film has clearly struck gold for Zee Plex, with more than 70000 users opting to pay for and view the film, on just its first day on the platform.
Ka Pae Ranasingam is directed by Virumandi and produced by KJR Studios, and bonafide Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi is in a pivotal role in the film which centres on the struggle of farmers and water scarcity in a village in Tamil Nadu.
Zee Plex, which is Zee’s in-house pay-per-view initiative, is available in over 150 countries. And the platform clearly scored the opportunity to widen its audience base by giving them that comfort alongside the fact that they could view it safely, at home, and play one lump sum no matter how many members of one unit chose to view the film.
From 1 October, advance booking for the film began on Zee Plex not just via Zee5, but on services like Dish TV, Tata Sky, D2H, and Airtel Digital TV. There were multiple options for payment as well, and this continues till the film is in premium pay-per-view.
We don’t know what this means for the pay-per-view model in India, specifically for other languages either. But we do know that it’s a welcome step in the right direction, and Zee Plex is certainly reaping the benefits!
